That I may give as I have received

You received without payment; give without payment.
Matthew 10.8b NRSV

Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.
Matthew 10.8b NAB

You received without charge, give without charge.
Matthew 10.8b NJB

Take the log out of your own eye

Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s eye,
but do not notice the log in your own eye?

Or how can you say to your neighbour,
“Friend, let me take out the speck in your eye”,
when you yourself do not see the log in your own eye?

You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye,
and then you will see clearly
      to take the speck out of your neighbour’s eye.
Luke 6:41-42

The grace not to speak ill of others

From Pope Francis...
"There is no need to go to a psychologist to know that when we denigrate another person it is because we are unable to grow up and need to belittle others, to feel more important.  This is 'an ugly mechanism'.  Jesus, with all simplicity says: 'Do not speak ill of one another.  Do not denigrate one another.  Do not belittle one another'".  (Homily on June 13, 2013)
From the Scriptures...
"Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips."  (Psalm 141.3 NRSV)
"O Lord, who may abide in your tent?  Who may dwell on your holy hill?  Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart; who do not slander with their tongue, and do no evil to their friends."  (Psalm 15.1-3a)
"I will guard my ways that I may not sin with my tongue."  (Psalm 39.1a)
"Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps himself out of trouble."  (Proverbs 21.23 CJB)
"From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.  My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so."  (James 3.10 NAB)
"It is what comes out of the mouth that defiles." (Matthew 15.11b NRSV)

On Judging Others

Do not judge, and you will not be judged;
do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.
Forgive, and you will be forgiven;
give, and it will be given to you.

A good measure, pressed down,
      shaken together, running over,
will be put into your lap;
for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.
Luke 6:37-38

Happy are those who love the Lord!

Happy are those who love you,
    and happy are those who rejoice in your prosperity.
Happy also are all people who grieve with you
    because of your afflictions;
    for they will rejoice with you
    and witness all your glory for ever.
My soul blesses the Lord, the great King!
Tobit 13:14-15
